the current and new to be built dormitories,  toilets and showerroom

Current classrooms are used as dormitories, while classrooms are overcrowded. Children who are ill lie in bed a bit abandoned and cannot really get out of bed. Together with Anthony we looked at how we could solve things better. Being sick should actually be possible in a small hospital ward. This is provided for in the newly built Health Center, so that problem has been solved. New dorms was a bigger problem. Anthony made a proposal and had drawings made. The space is there, but now the money. With the proposal and the drawings in hand, we went to AFAS Foundation and there we managed to raise the necessary amount to realize the dormitories. And that was a big party with us and with Anthony and his staff!

During our visit in January 2020, we look at the place together and have the first meeting with the contractor Mukasa James. A young contractor who has also built the Health Center to full satisfaction.

We would like a few small changes in the whole, namely thin walls between the beds, so that small rooms are created of, for example, 4 bunk beds, so that there is more peace and privacy in the room. We also want the mattresses and mosquito nets for all beds to be included in the budget. Now all children provide their own mattress and mosquito net. Often there is not enough money or no money at all and the children sleep on very thin, cheap mattresses and they do not have a mosquito net.

If we fail to include this in the budget, we will have to get the necessary money together in a different way.

We will also raise money for four large picnic tables that can be placed on the veranda to the left and right of the entrance, so that the children also have a place to eat, do homework or sit comfortably.

A fantastically beautiful project that we follow closely from the start. Construction is scheduled to start in February / March 2020. Follow the photo report below.

February 2020: start of construction
March 2020: the corona virus is circulating and a lock down has also been announced for Uganda. Despite this, construction is going smoothly and quickly.
April 2020: we are still dealing with the corona virus. We cannot go to Uganda to see the progress ourselves, but fortunately Anthony keeps well informed by means of the necessary photos.

May 2020: We receive a message from Anthony that the toilets have collapsed due to heavy rainfall ..... new project ?!

July 2020: Definitely a new project. A month later, the second toilet building also collapsed. It is a combination of circumstances. The skeptic tanks were full and had to be emptied. When the tanks are empty, it gives weakness in walls. If there is also a heavy rainfall and the dormitories are being built around it, it will soon happen. Unfortunately, the school is closed due to corona, but there are (under supervision) we still have a few children at school who do not have a home. With priority, two toilets are quickly made,

We received a substantial donation this month and we are depositing that money to Anthony so that a new toilet building can be quickly realized. Here will be 20 neat toilets, which will also be used for the school children. Two shower rooms are also being realized there.

September 2020. The dormitories are progressing steadily. They will really be two very beautiful buildings that the children and teachers will enjoy. Each building will have 3 rooms for 3 teachers who stay at school to take care of the children, among other things.
A change in the drawing above: Where the children now sleep together in one large room, the new building will have 6 rooms for the children per building. This way they have a little more privacy and that makes it a bit quieter.

The brand new mattresses and bunk beds will be delivered at the beginning of October. Anthony sends the necessary photos via the app, because we still cannot go to Uganda to monitor things due to COVID-19. We are both moved that we have achieved this together and with AFAS.

And when a few days later the power is also connected and the lights are on in the evening, the party is complete! Awesome! We are so happy with it!

October 15, 2020: On this day, the children in Primary 7 will return to school for the first time after COVID-19 time. And they can inaugurate the new dormitories and the mattresses. What a party and how fantastic it all looks! Now add the good mosquito nets and it's done!

The toilets are ready for use, but still need to be finished.
